LEAP Slowness and Solutions

Purpose: The following steps will address LEAP slowness or freezing issues:

They also resolve the following Calc Engine Errors:

Calculation engine is still loading.
Error in communication with the Calculation Engine. Please log a support call online.
Error in communication with the Calculation Engine. pid.txt file doesn’t exist. Please log a support call online.
Issues related to calc engine - waiting on calc engine and pid.txt file missing.
LEAP cannot launch the calculation engine. Please log a support call online.
Calculation engine failed to load.
LEAP cannot communicate with the Calculation Engine. Session Id is null. Please log a support call online. (This error may be caused by low storage.)
Error in communication with the Calculation Engine. Pipe timed out Result: 4. Please Log a support call online.

Restart Your Device

Sometimes, simply restarting LEAP and your computer can resolve temporary glitches causing freezing.
Perform a LEAP Repair

If the issue persists, try repairing LEAP. For instructions, visit the LEAP Repair guide.
Antivirus and Firewall Exceptions

Ensure LEAP is added to your antivirus and firewall exception list. For more details, refer to the Adding LEAP to Your Antivirus Exceptions List.
Check for LEAP Updates

LEAP updates often include fixes for known issues. It is recommended that users check for any pending LEAP updates, as these may lead to slowness in system performance.

To check for updates, navigate to LEAP Menu > About > Check for Updates.
Storage and Windows Updates

Ensure that your device has at least 50GB of available storage and check for the latest Windows Updates and install them to keep your device running smoothly and securely.
Ensure Your Computer Specifications Meet LEAP's System Requirements

Verify that your computer meets the LEAP's system requirements. You can also install and run the LEAP System Audit Tool to check compatibility.
Check the Internet Connection

A stable internet connection is crucial for LEAP's performance. Ensure your connection is reliable and fast to avoid slowness.
Clear Cache and Cookies

If you're accessing LEAP via a web browser, clearing your cache and cookies can help resolve loading issues.

These steps aim to resolve performance issues, including LEAP crashes, slowness,missing tabs and problems with opening or closing LEAP windows.

LEAP Slowness and Solutions related to integration with Microsoft 365 applications

Purpose: These steps will address LEAP slowness or freezing when working in integration with Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Word.

Use these steps if slowness occurs when:

Creating or opening an email from a LEAP matter.
Creating or opening a precedent or Word document.
Slowness when attaching files or sharing a document in a matter via email.
When you try to send an email from a matter, but there is a significant delay with the option to choose a contact or an email recipient. The box starts ‘flashing’ for some time before it provides email addresses to select.
If names are missing from the contact list when sending an email from a LEAP matter.

Address LEAP freezing when working with Outlook or Word with the steps below

Step 1. Check Outlook Add-ins and Configure Trust Center Settings:

In Outlook, go to File > Options > Add-ins.
Click Go next to Manage COM Add-ins.
Deselect to disable any third-party add-ins such as Adobe PDF and Adobe Document Cloud as they can conflict with the LEAP add-in (Microsoft add-ins are acceptable).
Ensure the LEAP Office for Outlook add-in is selected. Click OK.

Step 2. Configure the LEAP Automation Options for Microsoft Outlook to address slowness in sending emails out of LEAP:

To adjust the LEAP Automation Options for Microsoft Outlook, in Outlook, click on the small arrow icon on the bottom right corner of the Save to Matter button.
This will launch the LEAP Automation Options for Microsoft Outlook window.
Under the General heading, untick the following to resolve windows freezing when attaching files from a LEAP matter to an Outlook email:
- Untick Clean Contacts Folder at Startup, to clear all contacts stored in Outlook from LEAP cleared each time Outlook is closed and re-opened.
- Untick Clear LEAP Suggested Contacts at Startup, to clear all suggested contacts.
- Untick Use Outlook AddressBook, so that only LEAP matter contacts will appear. Unticking this will resolve windows freezing when loading matter contacts.
Click Clean Now and Clear Now to manually clear the contacts. Click OK.
Restart Outlook.
