The Powers of Attorney and Advance Decisions publication has been reviewed and updated in accordance with the Office of the Public Guardian’s new digital service, known as Use a Lasting Power of Attorney. On registration the OPG will provide an access key to donors and attorneys to create and manage their online account:
  • enabling donors and attorneys to provide banks and healthcare providers with an access code, allowing them immediate access to a summary of the lasting power of attorney confirming the attorney’s identity and authority;
  • dispensing with the current paper-based system, which causes delays; 
  • maintaining safeguards to protect the elderly and vulnerable from abuse.
The service will initially be available to new registrations. The OPG intends to roll out the new system to cover already registered lasting powers of attorney.
